<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to make Instant wheat Dosa</h2>

<p>This <strong>Instant Wheat Dosa</strong> is a quick dosa recipe and can be finished in just 10 minutes, and tastes great with just simple chutney like peanut chutney or tomato chutney.</p>

<p>At times, we feel bored to make the dinner after a long tired day and in those time, when you need to feed your family with some healthy dish, then you can very well go for this Instant wheat dosa recipe.</p>

<p>The <strong>Instant wheat dosa</strong>, is quick, tasty, crispy and the most is, it is healthier too. In order to get the crispiness to the wheat dosa, little amount of rice flour is used. Adding the rice flour really changes the texture of the dosa to a thin and crispy form. </p>

<p>When you do not want to add the rice flour, you can very well skip it and make a thick dosa. If you want to make this as wheat rava dosa, you can add a 1/2 cup of semolina / rava and make this dosa to wheat rava dosa, which also tastes great.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Instant-wheat-dosa2.jpg" alt="Instant wheat dosa" class="wp-image-5275" srcset="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Instant-wheat-dosa2.jpg 640w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Instant-wheat-dosa2-500x500.jpg 500w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Instant-wheat-dosa2-200x200.jpg 200w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Instant-wheat-dosa2-100x100.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What side dish / chutney I recommend for this dosa</h3>

<p>This Instant wheat dosa can be taken with just normal home made sambar and chutney. But I recommend the below chutneys </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/hotel-style-kaara-chutney-chutney-recipes/" target="_blank">hotel style kaara chutney</a></li><li><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/spicy-onion-chutney-kara-vengaya-chutney/" target="_blank">spicy onion chutney</a></li><li><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/onion-tomato-chutney/" target="_blank">Onion tomato chutney</a></li><li><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/groundnut-chutney-chutney-recipes-how-to-make-groundnut-chutney/" target="_blank">peanut chutney</a></li></ul>

<p>You can also check the <a href="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/chutney-recipes-idli-dosa/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">full list of my chutney recipes</a>.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Is the Dosa Vegan ?</h3>

<p>Yes. I have made this dosa as a vegan, since I have used only the water to dilute the dosa batter. As I have added only the water here, the dosa would not give a tangy taste. so you can add a 1 or 2 tsp of lemon juice if you want. If you are not vegan, you can prepare this dosa with buttermilk or yoghurt or even with milk.</p>

<p></p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215034-1024x1024.jpg" alt="instant wheat dosa" class="wp-image-5225" srcset="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215034.jpg 1024w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215034-500x500.jpg 500w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215034-200x200.jpg 200w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215034-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215034-1536x1536.jpg 1536w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215034-2048x2048.jpg 2048w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215034-100x100.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Step by step instruction for making the Instant Wheat Dosa Recipe</h4>

<p>Lets see the step by step procedure to make the recipe with pictures.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Preparing the batter</h4>

<p>To prepare this wheat flour dosa, in a big bowl, add the wheat flour and the rice flour. if you want a thick dosa, and less crispier dosa you can reduce the amount of rice flour. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215118-1024x1024.jpg" alt="VideoCapture" class="wp-image-5226" srcset="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215118.jpg 1024w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215118-500x500.jpg 500w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215118-200x200.jpg 200w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215118-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215118-1536x1536.jpg 1536w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215118-2048x2048.jpg 2048w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215118-100x100.jpg 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The batter need to be prepared as a thin consistency for this recipe. So you can add the water accordingly. Normally 3 to 4 cups of water is enough. Mix well without any lumps. Instead of water, you can also add butter milk or 3 to 4 tbsp of yoghurt and mix with water. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215145-1024x1024.jpg" alt="VideoCapture" class="wp-image-5227" srcset="https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215145.jpg 1024w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215145-500x500.jpg 500w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215145-200x200.jpg 200w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215145-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215145-1536x1536.jpg 1536w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215145-2048x2048.jpg 2048w, https://www.akilaskitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VideoCapture_20200424-215145-100x100.jpg 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Now mix everything well and keep aside.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Preparation of Dosa</h4>

<p>Heat the dosa tawa or dosa pan in high flame first. Use 1 tsp oil spread it evenly using a tissue or kitchen cloth or cut half a small onion and rub the tawa. Pour the batter on the hot tawa to form a round shape. No need to spread it like normal dosa. </p>

<p>Add 1 to 2 tsp oil around the dosa and cook on medium to high flame.</p>

<div style="text-align: left;"><b>Notes:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">1. You can add crushed fresh black pepper as per your spice level. I didnt add, as I need to give for my kids.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">2. If you have left over batter of idli or dosa, you can add 1 laddle full of that.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">3. If you add more rice flour, your dosa will become crispy. For Soft dosa&#8217;s replace rice flour with wheat flour itself.<br />4. My father said, we can add few drumstick leaves instead of curry leaves.&nbsp;</div>

<div><i><b><span style="color: #990000;">Podi Oothappam / Podi uthappam</span></b></i> is one of the simple variety of oothappam which we can for a change. This oothappam I first had in vasantha bhavan in Tambaram and liked it. After that I completely forgot that. Two weeks back, when I checked my <a href="http://www.akilaskitchen.com/2010/06/idli-milagai-podi-idli-podi.html" target="_blank"><b>Idli milagai podi</b></a>, I found its crispiness has gone and when I was thinking what to do with the old podi, got the idea of making the <i><span style="color: #990000;">podi oothappam</span></i> and it turned out pretty good. So here is the very simple recipe of Podi Oothappam.</div>

<div>2. Idli milagai Podi / Gun powder &#8211; as required</div>
<div>3. Oil &#8211; 1 to 2 tsp / oothappam</div>
<div></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BD6sIZo7QKw/UpiryzyZO8I/AAAAAAAAPBM/t7ca9N9yssg/s1600/podi-4.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="easy oothappam" border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BD6sIZo7QKw/UpiryzyZO8I/AAAAAAAAPBM/t7ca9N9yssg/s320/podi-4.jpg" title="Podi uttappam" width="287" /></a></div>
<div></div>
<div><b>Method</b></div>
<div>1. Heat the dosa pan / dosai kal in medium flame.</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tkbnF1XETHg/UpiesZj7DSI/AAAAAAAAPAg/SH86a3OpRco/s1600/Podi+oothappam+-+01.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="217" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tkbnF1XETHg/UpiesZj7DSI/AAAAAAAAPAg/SH86a3OpRco/s320/Podi+oothappam+-+01.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">2. Add 1/2 tsp oil and spread on pan. (You can skip this part, if you use non stick pan).</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">3. Now add 2 or 2 and 1/2 laddle full of the dosa batter on the tawa.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RRxICr7qquw/UpiescOtBLI/AAAAAAAAPAs/tHCVhZUedKY/s1600/Podi+oothappam+-+02.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="217" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RRxICr7qquw/UpiescOtBLI/AAAAAAAAPAs/tHCVhZUedKY/s320/Podi+oothappam+-+02.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">4. Sprinkle the Idli Milagai Podi generously on top. Add or sprikle a 1/2 tsp oil on the podi.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R7aWJwTcl6c/UpiesSWJ8gI/AAAAAAAAPAk/kzeFGb-NZRg/s1600/Podi+oothappam+-+03.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="217" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R7aWJwTcl6c/UpiesSWJ8gI/AAAAAAAAPAk/kzeFGb-NZRg/s320/Podi+oothappam+-+03.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">5. Close the oothappam using some lid. ( I used aappa kadai cover). Cook in medium flame for a 1 to 2 min.</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8bW9MrfYjKM/Upies9jAYnI/AAAAAAAAPBA/FFtoLSsCyBI/s1600/Podi+oothappam+-+04.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="217" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8bW9MrfYjKM/Upies9jAYnI/AAAAAAAAPBA/FFtoLSsCyBI/s320/Podi+oothappam+-+04.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pVyJh_VqciY/UpietO72VYI/AAAAAAAAPA0/p5mlrk-Boec/s1600/Podi+oothappam+-+05.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="217" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pVyJh_VqciY/UpietO72VYI/AAAAAAAAPA0/p5mlrk-Boec/s320/Podi+oothappam+-+05.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">6. Open the lid and check whether the oothappam is cooked. If not cooked, let it cook for another min.&nbsp;</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--EdFyQOgoHc/UpietYYphwI/AAAAAAAAPA8/PxPwyGts6eE/s1600/Podi+oothappam+-+06.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="217" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--EdFyQOgoHc/UpietYYphwI/AAAAAAAAPA8/PxPwyGts6eE/s320/Podi+oothappam+-+06.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div></div>
<div>7 . Serve it hot with your favorite sambar or chutney. You also have this as it is, as it already contains the idli milagai powder.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7416/11116791085_2ac5a3f5b8_c.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="Podi Oothappam" border="0" height="516" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7416/11116791085_2ac5a3f5b8_c.jpg" title="How to make podi othappam" width="640" /></a></div>
<div></p>
<div style="text-align: center;"><b>Yummy and easy Podi Oothappam is ready to be served</b></div>
<p></div>
<div><b>Notes:</b></div>
<div></div>
<div>1. The Batter should be not be too thick or watery. Then oothappam would not come out nicely. Batter consistency plays an important role.</div>
<div>2. Do not flip the oothappam, as you do for the dosa or other oothappam, as the podi gets burnt sometimes and would not be nice.&nbsp;</div>
<div>3. Covering the oothappam and cooking is my MIL&#8217;s method. You can try without covering with lid also.</p>
</div>
